Pop Bottle Art

I bet you were wondering what we were going to make out of those pop bottles the kids brought to school.  Well, the answer is...nothing!  Instead, we used the pop bottles (and lids) as art tools to create flower paintings.  Have you ever looked at the bottom of a pop bottle?  It's not flat - and if you dip it in paint and "stamp" it on paper, you get a pretty cool flower shape.  The lids make good stamps for the flower centers.  Check out how we did it!

And the Survey Says...

We've been working on surveys and graphing these past few days.  Yesterday we made up our own surveys and then took them to Kindergarten and Mrs. Schafer's Grade 6 class.  We asked our questions, recorded their answers and then tallied the results.  Some of us made bar graphs to show what our survey showed and some made pictographs.

Time with Wallace

We have a new puppy at our house.  Her name is Wallace.  She made her second visit to our classroom Friday afternoon.  The kids all had a little time with her.  We have many experienced dog owners in our class and they did a good job wearing her out.  Thanks kids!

Easter Fun

We had a little fun before the Easter break.  We had an Easter egg roll relay, which turned into a very close race.

And we made "S'meeps!"  A S'meep is kind of like a S'more, except instead of using marshmallows, you use an Easter Peep.  To make, just put a couple of squares of Hershey's chocolate on a Graham wafer, heat in the microwave for about 12 seconds.  Then heat a peep on a Graham cracker for about 6 seconds and smush the two crackers together.  Voila, a S'meep!

Getting Our Hands a Little Dirty

We are working on paper mache eggs.  It's a bit of a long and messy process (I'd forgotten how long and how messy...)  I'd also forgotten there is always at least one in the bunch that doesn't enjoy getting his hands dirty!  (It's always surprising who that one is...!)  We hope to complete the project in time for Easter.
